Born in Denville, New Jersey, Michael grew up in both Toms River, New Jersey as well as Abilene, Texas, calling both home.
While in high school, Michael witnessed his family’s selfless dedication to both fire and rescue squads through volunteerism. Michael’s father Jerry was the Chief of Ocean Beach Fire Department and his older brother Jimmy was one of the first licensed paramedics to work in Ocean County New Jersey. Michael knew early in life, that helping others was his true calling.
In 2002, while working in Highlands County Florida as an E911 Dispatch Trainer, Michael learned that his younger brother, Scott, was losing his battle with brain cancer. Desiring to spend as much time as he could with Scott, Michael moved to Clyde, Texas. He moved just in time, for only a couple days after the move, Scott passed away.
Scott was an active Abilene Police Officer at the time of his death, working up till the Wednesday before his passing. During Scott’s treatment and recovery, EVERY officer donated time and money to his effort. Their dedication to Scott’s recovery was so extensive, the city was forced to change its policy regarding donating leave.
The Abilene Police department had made an amazing impact on Michael as well. A year later, in 2003, Michael graduated from the police academy. Two years later, he met his wife and Blue Family Fund Partner, Stacey.
